Kim Kardashian Engagement Ring Tops US Interest

Kim Kardashian's engagement ring is more of interest to U.S. online users, than the GM bankruptcy and the Air France missing plane. Google Trends show that Kim Kardashian's engagement ring search is the most searched topic of in Google.

This is how celebrity and vanity driven is our culture. Kim Kardashian's engagement ring is about one person and about jewelry, while GM bankruptcy and the Air France missing stories affect the lives of tens of thousands of people.

I would have not written this post, but a European friend once asked me to check the main headlines of CNN Europe and CNN USA. I was very much surprized. CNN Europe's main headline was about climate change, while CNN USA's main headline was about a teenager who did something odd.

Why and when have we become this much indifferent about lives of other people and their well being. People, indeed, have freedom and rights of searching what they want. But that search tells a story of what are we interested in.

The question that I am posing here is rather rhetorical. When the country's largest automaker GM is filing for the largest bankruptcy in history and an Air France plane with hundreds of people on board goes missing why are we searching for Kim Kardashian's engagement ring.
